A custom mirror is a mirror cut to the exact size of your vanity, wall or room, so there is no gap at the edges and no odd strip of bare wall around it. It is for homeowners who want a mirror that fits the space instead of a stock size, and for contractors finishing a bathroom, gym or dressing room.

Star Glass LLC cuts 1/4-inch mirror in five types and installs it in homes across northern and central New Jersey. Mirrors are part of our glass and mirror installation work.

Choosing between the five mirror types

Pick by how you want the room to look and how true you want the reflection.

Clear mirrors are the standard. They are bright and show colors accurately. Bronze mirrors have a warm brown tint that softens the light, and they suit cozy rooms and dining areas.

Grey mirrors are cooler and a little darker, which cuts glare in modern rooms. Low-iron mirrors are made from clearer glass, so there is no green tint at the edge. Mirrorpane mirrors are a specialty two-way mirror, not a normal bathroom mirror.

How a vanity or wall mirror is mounted

Mirrors are generally mounted with mirror adhesive, with J-channel or clips, or with both on larger mirrors. The wall has to be flat and clean.

A wall that is not flat, or one with a flaking coat of paint, is the usual reason a large mirror cannot go straight on. Safety backing is an option on large mirrors. We confirm the method when we measure.

Airflow behind bathroom mirrors

In damp rooms the mirror should have some airflow behind it, so moisture does not sit against the back.

This is one reason mounting matters in a bathroom. Tell us which room the mirror is for, and we plan the mounting around it. If the mirror is going in with a new frameless shower door, we measure both on the same visit.

Cut to the size of your wall

We cut the mirror to the size your wall needs. It can go on a bathroom vanity, a hall wall, a dressing area or a home gym. We measure on site, so the mirror fits the wall as it really is.

Mixing mirror types in one house

Many homes use clear in the bathroom, where true color matters, and bronze or grey in a dining room or entry. Each room gets the type that suits its light.

We bring samples of the types you are considering. Hold them against the wall in the room itself, in the light you have, before you decide.

A mirror job from start to finish

You call or send the quote form. We visit, ask what the mirror is for, measure the wall and show samples. The mirror is cut to size and our crew installs it. If you are a contractor or builder, we work to the same steps on your site. For a room divider instead of a mirror, see glass partitions.

Questions about this work

What thickness are your custom mirrors?

Star Glass cuts 1/4-inch mirror only. It comes in clear, bronze, grey, low-iron and mirrorpane, and we help you choose between them at the visit.

Can I see the mirror tints before I order?

Yes. We bring samples to the estimate visit so you can hold them against the wall in your own light before you decide.

Can you install a mirror on a tiled wall?

Usually, yes. We confirm the mounting method when we measure, once we have seen whether the tile is flat and how the edges land.

How much does a custom mirror cost?

The price depends on the size, the mirror type, any polished edges or cutouts, and how it is mounted. Star Glass gives you a firm price after measuring in your home.

Do you install custom mirrors for contractors?

Yes. Star Glass is a licensed New Jersey contractor and installs custom mirrors for homeowners, contractors and builders across northern and central New Jersey. The estimate is free.
