A frameless shower door is thick tempered glass held by hinges, clips and a handle, with no metal frame around the panels. It suits any homeowner replacing a curtain or a framed door, and any contractor finishing a bathroom remodel. Water has fewer ledges to sit on, the tile stays visible, and the bathroom looks larger.
Star Glass LLC measures your shower, has the glass made to fit and installs it. We do single doors, door-and-panel layouts, corner enclosures and steam enclosures in homes across northern and central New Jersey, from Ridgewood and Montclair to Westfield and Princeton.
Your shower layout decides the door
The shape of your shower decides the door. A straight alcove between three walls usually takes a swing door with one fixed panel, or a sliding door if there is no room for a door to swing. A corner shower takes a corner enclosure with two glass sides meeting at a hinged door, or a neo-angle front that cuts across the corner. A shower you want to fill with steam takes a steam enclosure with glass up to the ceiling.
If you are not sure which one you have, send a photo with the quote form. We confirm the layout when we visit and measure.
Clear, low-iron or frosted glass
Clear glass is the standard choice. Plain clear glass has a faint green edge you can see when you look at the cut side. Low-iron glass has less of that tint, so white tile and light stone look truer through it. Frosted glass hides the person inside and still lets light into the room, which suits a shower next to a window or a shared hallway.
Thickness is 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch. The thicker glass feels heavier and more solid when the door closes. We also offer a protective coating that helps water run off the surface. You choose all of this when we visit and measure.
- Clear glass
- Low-iron glass, which is extra clear
- Frosted glass for privacy
- 3/8" or 1/2" thickness
- Protective glass coating
Hardware finishes
Hinges, handles and clips come in square or rounded styles. Pick the finish to match your faucet and towel bars, or choose a contrast on purpose.
We install satin brass, matte black, chrome, brushed nickel, oil rubbed bronze, polished nickel and brushed bronze. We bring hardware samples to the visit, so you can hold each finish next to your faucet and shower head. Special colors can be ordered on request.
What sets the price of a frameless shower door
Four things: the size of the opening, the layout, the glass and the hardware. A single swing door in a narrow alcove costs less than a corner enclosure or a floor-to-ceiling steam enclosure. Low-iron glass, 1/2 inch thickness and the protective coating each add to the price. We give you a firm number after we measure, because the glass is made to your opening and nothing else.
Shower glass for remodels and contractors
In a remodel the glass goes in last and has to fit the finished walls exactly, so we measure after the tile is done. We work directly with homeowners and with contractors running the job. See shower glass for bathroom remodels for how the timing works.
From the first call to the installed door
You call or send the quote form. We visit your home, measure the opening and go over glass, thickness and hardware with you. The glass is made to those measurements, because tile walls are rarely perfectly square and a stock door will not fit one. When it is ready we come back and install it.
Tell us if the shower is still being tiled. Measuring before the tile is finished can throw the numbers off, so we wait until the tile is done.
The one-year warranty
Your shower door carries a one-year warranty on seals, leaks and hardware operation. If a seal fails or a hinge stops working properly in the first year, call us. The glass carries the manufacturer warranty.
