A glass partition is a fixed glass wall that splits one room into two without a solid wall. Light passes through and the space still feels open. It is for homeowners who want a home office, play area or basement zone without losing the light, and for contractors finishing those spaces.

Star Glass LLC is a licensed New Jersey glass contractor. We measure the room, have the glass made to size and install it in homes across northern and central New Jersey. Glass partitions are part of our glass and mirror installation work.

Picking the glass for a partition

You can choose clear, low-iron or frosted glass. The right one depends on how much privacy you want.

Clear glass is the standard choice. It keeps the view open and has a faint green tint, which you see most on the cut edges. Low-iron glass is much clearer and looks nearly colorless, and it costs noticeably more. Frosted glass blocks the view and still lets light through.

Partitions for a home office

A partition can set off a desk area in a bedroom, a loft or a living room.

Frosted glass hides a messy desk and screens. Clear glass keeps the room feeling larger. We can talk through which fits when we see the space.

A clear panel for a kids' play area

A clear panel lets you watch a play area from the kitchen or the couch while keeping toys in one zone. Tell us how the space will be used. That helps us suggest where the glass should go.

Partitions in a basement

In a basement, a partition can separate a gym, a TV area or a work space while sharing the light from the same windows and fixtures.

Basement walls and floors are often not level, so we measure on site before the glass is made.

Glass and sound

A glass partition blocks sound better than an open room and less than a solid wall. You will still hear voices and a TV at a lower level. If quiet matters for your job, tell us on the call so we can discuss it.

What happens at the measure

We come to the space, bring glass samples and ask how you plan to use the partition. We measure the floor, ceiling and walls where the glass will sit, because those are rarely perfectly straight, and we tell you if the layout you have in mind is not the best one for the space. Then the glass is made to size and our crew installs it. If you also want a custom mirror or a glass railing, the same visit can cover it.

Questions about this work

Can a glass partition have a door?

Tell us when you call if you want a door in the partition. We talk it through before we measure, because a door changes the hardware and how the panels are laid out.

Why is partition glass measured before it is made?

Because tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after it is tempered. Star Glass measures the floor, ceiling and walls on site first, and the glass is then made to size.

Is frosted glass the same as clear glass with a film?

Not always. Frosting can be done in several ways, and some are more durable than a film. Ask us which frosting we use for your job and we will show you a sample.

How much does a glass partition cost?

The price depends on the size of the opening, the number of panels, clear, low-iron or frosted glass, and whether there is a door. Star Glass gives you a firm price after measuring the room.

Do you install glass partitions for contractors?

Yes. Star Glass is a licensed New Jersey contractor and takes partition jobs from homeowners and from contractors and builders across northern and central New Jersey. The estimate is free.
